Why I’m Qualified to Give You Business Advice
When it comes to business planning, career transitions, and aligning professional paths with purpose, my experience speaks for itself. With 13 years of human resources experience across government, corporate, and entrepreneurial spaces, I have helped individuals and companies navigate hiring, structure, and career pivots with confidence. But my journey into HR wasn’t conventional—it was built on adaptability, strategic thinking, and an intuitive understanding of people’s strengths and potential.

How I Got Started in Human Resources
I never set out to work in HR. At the time, I was an actress performing in Tommy, playing Sally Simpson. Like many artists, I needed a stable income to support my passion, or I would have to move back to Ohio. A cast mate, who worked for the government, knew of an opening for an HR assistant at her company. My résumé was full of customer service and waitressing roles—nothing directly related to HR—but I took a chance, walked into that interview with confidence, and landed the position.
That first role in Washington, D.C., involved helping people obtain government clearances. While I was grateful for the opportunity, I knew within nine months that it wasn’t my long-term path. Staying in that position would have required full government clearance, which meant a more permanent commitment to that career. I wanted more, so I applied for other opportunities—ones that aligned with my skills, leadership potential, and passion for helping people find their true fit.

Becoming an HR Department of One—at 25
At just 25 years old, I became the entire human resources department for the prestigious Hay-Adams Hotel, located directly across from the White House. For a young professional whose frontal lobe was still developing, this was a huge responsibility. I managed hiring, compliance, employee relations, and leadership strategies for one of the most renowned luxury hotels in the country. From there, I expanded my expertise across industries, working for major corporations like Avon, Time Warner, and even within streetwear brands like The Hundreds.
In many of these spaces, I was often the only woman—and frequently, the only person of color—in the room. This experience taught me how to navigate high-pressure environments, advocate for diverse perspectives, and make strategic decisions that balanced business needs with employee well-being.
What I Bring to the Table
My background in HR extends beyond hiring and firing—I specialize in helping people align with careers that fuel them, rather than just survival jobs. Many employees came to me unsure of whether they were in the right position, and I helped them assess their skills, passions, and financial needs to determine their best next move. I don’t just look at qualifications—I look at whether you’re truly aligned with the work you’re doing.
Additionally, I know how to maintain professionalism in difficult situations. One of the best examples? I once had to fire a close friend on a Friday, and we still went to brunch on Sunday. Business decisions aren’t personal—they’re about finding the best fit for both individuals and companies. I bring fairness, honesty, and strategic insight to every consultation, ensuring that people move in the direction that benefits them most.
